Outrageous Taxco Signed 980 Sterling and Enamel Snake and Earrings Set Demi Parure

An extraordinary sterling and enamel earrings and necklace set crafted with incredible detail by silver master Melesio Villarreal, Taxco, Mexico.  He is considered one of the few remaining Taxco artists whose work is extremely high quality.  Villarreal worked for Margot de Taxco for 30 years and produced many of her designs from old forms he had saved.  The necklace is fully detailed on each articulated section.  The set is made entirely with 980 silver, far purer than the 925 silver used more commonly for Mexican jewelry. The necklace is designed with 28 curved and hinged sections, two of which are the serpent’s head and tail.  All of the sections are inlayed with colorful enamel and jet black details on collar and eyes.  The necklace measures approx. 1-11/16 inches wide where the head and tail meet and the remaining snake body measures approx. 5/8 inch wide.  The necklace has a wearable length of 16 inches and the earrings, designed with posts for pierced ears, each measure 7/8 inch wide by 2-1/8 inches long.  The set weighs approx. 111 grams of 980 silver. The necklace has a tongue-in-box secure closure in the center back. The necklace is hallmarked with the artist’s stylized script “Melesio Villarreal” signature and marked “980.”  In excellent condition. We are offering a matching bracelet on our website.
